MP Mafabi Asha Nabulo handles water scarcity in sironko: Launches free five boreholes

Sironko District are celebrating a major victory against one of their most persistent challenges following the commissioning of five new boreholes by Sironko District Woman MP Hon. Asha Nabulo Mafabi in partnership with One Ummah Uganda.

The newly constructed boreholes, located in Bunabonyo in Buwasa Sub-county, Kidowa, Nalusaala, Nabudisirua “A”, Dahami, and Bunagawoya in Busulani Sub-county, are expected to provide safe and clean water to communities that have for years struggled with severe water shortages.

For many residents, particularly women and adolescent girls, the project represents more than access to water. It is a lifeline that will reduce the burden of walking long distances in search of water, improve sanitation and health, and protect vulnerable girls from dangers associated with long journeys to distant water sources.

Speaking during the launch, Bunabonyo Village Women’s Chairperson Irene Nabende said the lack of nearby water sources had exposed women and girls to numerous challenges, including insecurity, school absenteeism, and social vulnerabilities.

She praised Hon. Nabulo for responding to the cries of the community, noting that the availability of water closer to homes will significantly improve the lives of families in the area.

Residents also welcomed the intervention with gratitude. Peresi Mukwana of Bunagawoya said the community had endured years of hardship due to water scarcity and described the boreholes as a blessing that will restore dignity and improve daily life.

Sironko District LCV Chairperson Alex Guga Nabende commended Hon. Nabulo and One Ummah Uganda for their commitment to improving service delivery. While acknowledging that water shortages remain a challenge in several parts of the district, he appealed for continued support to expand access to safe water to more communities.

Hon. Asha Nabulo Mafabi emphasized that solving community challenges requires leaders who remain connected to the people and are willing to seek practical solutions through partnerships and effective lobbying.

“A leader must leave behind a legacy that improves people’s lives. To understand the challenges affecting the community, you must move among the people and work tirelessly to find solutions. The season of politics is behind us; this is the time for development and service delivery,” she said.

The legislator also called upon residents and local leaders to identify and document challenges affecting their communities so they can be addressed systematically and effectively.

She expressed appreciation to One Ummah Uganda for its continued partnership in supporting vulnerable communities, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved when leaders, development partners, and citizens work together toward a common goal.

Hon. Nabulo reaffirmed her commitment to fulfilling the promises she made to the people of Sironko, expressing confidence that tangible results and improved livelihoods will speak louder than campaign messages in the years ahead.
