How UGX 1 Million Turned a Struggling Mother into a Successful Farmer from Mbale

The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for Mbale District, Andrew Allan Wokalo, accompanied by the Regional Coordinator, Namasaba Jalia, visited one of the outstanding PDM beneficiaries in Matsakha Cell, Bukuwa Ward, Nabumali Town Council, Mbale District.

The team met Ms.Khaitsa Meble, a 48-year-old resident whose remarkable journey highlights the impact of the government’s strategic intervention aimed at uplifting households from subsistence to sustainable wealth creation.

Ms.Khaitsa received UGX 1 million from her local PDM SACCO and invested the funds wisely by purchasing three pigs worth UGX 200,000 each, while the remaining balance was used to construct a pig shelter and purchase feeds. Through hard work, commitment, and proper management, her small venture has grown significantly.

Today, Ms Khaitsa owns eight mature pigs and eight piglets, a testament to the effectiveness of the Parish Development Model in empowering ordinary Ugandans to become active participants in the country’s economic transformation.

The thriving piggery enterprise has not only expanded her business but has also improved household food security, increased family income, and strengthened her financial independence. Her success story serves as an inspiration to other beneficiaries on the importance of utilizing PDM funds productively.

Speaking during the visit, ONC Coordinator Andrew Allan Wokalo commended Khaitsa for her dedication and urged other beneficiaries to emulate her example by investing in income-generating projects that can create lasting economic benefits.
