MBALE CITY — The Minister of State for Public Service and Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, has challenged newly elected Local Council One (LC1) chairpersons in Northern Division to uphold integrity, fairness, and dedication to public service as they begin their leadership journey.
The call was made during the official induction of the newly elected LC1 leaders held at the Northern Division headquarters in Namakwekwe. The event was attended by Hon. Umaru Nangoli and other Mbale City leaders who joined in preparing the grassroots leaders for their new responsibilities.
Addressing the inductees, Wanyoto emphasized that LC1 chairpersons occupy a critical position in Uganda’s governance structure, serving as the first point of contact between citizens and government institutions. She urged them to lead with honesty, accountability, and a commitment to serving all residents without discrimination.
She noted that effective leadership at the village level is essential for strengthening service delivery and ensuring that government programs reach intended beneficiaries.
“Leadership is a public trust. As LC1 chairpersons, you have a responsibility to serve every resident fairly and to put the interests of your communities above personal considerations,” Wanyoto said.
The minister highlighted the vital role of LC1 leaders in mobilizing communities, resolving local disputes, identifying vulnerable households, and supporting the implementation of government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
She further encouraged the leaders to work closely with residents, government agencies, and other local authorities to promote development and foster unity within their communities.
Hon. Umaru Nangoli and other city leaders also urged the newly inducted chairpersons to embrace teamwork, transparency, and accountability in the execution of their duties.
The induction marked the beginning of a new chapter for Northern Division’s grassroots leadership, with leaders expected to play a central role in connecting citizens to essential services and ensuring the effective implementation of government programs.
