Stakeholders have strongly defended Mbale Secondary School (Mbale SS), condemning what they describe as politically motivated attempts to tarnish the institution’s reputation.
The stakeholders were responding to recent statements allegedly made by Masaba Emmanuel Sebunyo, whom they accused of using the school to advance political interests following the participation of some Mbale students in a President Yoweri Museveni event.
According to the stakeholders, allegations that the head teacher and the administration of Mbale SS support the NRM are false and intended to damage the image of one of Bugisu’s most respected educational institutions.
“Mbale SS is a giant school that has served the Bugisu region for decades. Its academic excellence, infrastructure development, sports facilities, and overall contribution to education have made it one of the region’s most admired institutions. Government and all stakeholders should protect such a school instead of allowing it to be dragged into unnecessary politics,” they said.
The stakeholders emphasized that Mbale Secondary School is not a Universal Secondary Education (USE) school. They clarified that it is a government-aided school that charges school fees, and parents willingly meet those costs because of the quality education, discipline, and continuous development offered by the institution.
They added that parents are satisfied with the school’s administration, academic standards, infrastructure development, and the opportunities it provides to learners.
The stakeholders further urged Masaba Emmanuel Sebunyo to stop spreading what they termed as misinformation about the school and instead channel his efforts toward issues that promote the development of the Bugisu sub-region.
“We have seen the messages circulating on social media, but we are not going to give them unnecessary attention because they do not reflect the views of the parents and stakeholders of Mbale SS. The school belongs to the people of Bugisu, and we shall continue to support its growth and development,” they said.
They also called upon the public, especially parents, old students, and well-wishers, not to be misled by claims aimed at creating unnecessary controversy around the school.
“Mbale SS has produced thousands of professionals and leaders who continue to serve Uganda in different capacities. Its contribution to education in Bugisu and the country at large cannot be overshadowed by political propaganda. We therefore appeal to everyone to keep politics away from our schools and allow teachers and administrators to focus on providing quality education,” the stakeholders added.
They reaffirmed their confidence in the school’s leadership and pledged continued support for initiatives that improve learning, infrastructure, discipline, and academic excellence at Mbale Secondary School.
