Soroti District, Uganda — What began as a modest investment from the Parish Development Model (PDM) has grown into a remarkable story of determination, smart reinvestment, and economic transformation for Mr. Odeke Silver of Atir A Village, Ojama Parish, Katine Sub-county in Soroti District.

In 2023, Mr. Odeke received PDM support and chose to invest wisely. He first purchased pesticides for his citrus orchard, helping him improve production and increase yields. After selling the harvest, he took another strategic step by investing the proceeds in five improved goats.

Today, that small herd has multiplied to more than 50 goats, creating a valuable and sustainable source of income for his family. Not stopping there, Mr. Odeke diversified into poultry farming, further strengthening his household’s earnings while producing organic manure to support his agricultural activities.
The success of these ventures has enabled him to purchase four additional acres of land, expanding his productive assets and opening up new opportunities for growth.

With his eyes firmly set on the future, Mr. Odeke is now planning to establish a grinding mill at Atirir Trading Centre, a venture expected to improve access to milling services for the community while creating another source of income.
From citrus farming to livestock rearing, poultry production, land acquisition, and plans for a rural enterprise, Mr. Odeke has turned a single opportunity into a pathway toward long-term prosperity.
