The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman ONC, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has today gone back to Katwe to check on the progress of Kyomugisha Babra, the struggling single mother she recently supported after meeting her while monitoring the display of the National Resistance Movement NRM village committee voters’ registers ahead of the upcoming Local Council I LC I elections.
The intervention followed a viral video circulating on social media highlighting the plight of Kyomugisha Babra, a single mother who had been living in extremely difficult conditions with her children. While monitoring the ongoing voter register verification exercise in Katwe, Hajjat Namyalo came across Kyomugisha, who broke down in tears as she shared the hardships she and her children had been enduring.
Kyomugisha explained that she had no reliable source of income and frequently went without food. She said she often slept hungry and struggled to provide even the most basic necessities for her family. She further revealed that her children’s school fees amount to UGX 150,000, but she could sometimes only manage to raise UGX 3,000, leaving the children at risk of dropping out of school.
Deeply touched by her situation, Hajjat Namyalo immediately offered Kyomugisha startup capital to enable her begin a small income-generating business and become self-reliant instead of depending on handouts.
After visiting the makeshift shelter where Kyomugisha had been living, Hajjat Namyalo was further moved by the poor living conditions. She decided to relocate the family to a more decent home by renting a self-contained house for Kyomugisha for one year. She also ensured the house was equipped with essential household necessities to give the family a fresh start.
In addition to securing the new home, Hajjat Namyalo provided a mattress, blankets, clothes, food supplies, and other basic household items to help Kyomugisha and her children settle comfortably.
Speaking after receiving the support, Kyomugisha Babra thanked Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo for showing compassion at a time when she had almost given up on life.
“I never imagined that anyone would come to my rescue in this way. I had lost hope in life and did not expect to receive such overwhelming support. Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo wiped away my tears, restored my dignity, gave me and my children a new beginning, and even provided me with capital to start a business. I will always be grateful to her. May God richly bless her,” Kyomugisha said.
The intervention reflects the Office of the National Chairman’s continued commitment to empowering vulnerable and disadvantaged Ugandans by providing not only immediate humanitarian assistance but also opportunities for self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
