SIRONKO DISTRICT – Sironko Town Council NRM Chairperson, Abdallah Dife, has called upon party leaders and council members across the district to intensify grassroots mobilisation and rally support for National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates ahead of the upcoming Local Council One (LC1) elections.
Hon. Dife made the appeal on today while addressing 42 NRM sub-county chairpersons who gathered at Sironko Town Council Hall for a strategic mobilisation meeting aimed at strengthening party structures and preparing for the village-level elections.
He noted that the ongoing mobilisation drive is part of a wider campaign across Sironko District focused on unifying the party, reviving local structures, and consolidating support to strengthen the NRM’s political base at the grassroots level.
According to him, NRM leaders have been actively engaging communities through continuous meetings at sub-county and town council levels, encouraging unity among party members and promoting development-oriented leadership within local structures.
“Our strength as a party lies in unity and effective grassroots mobilisation. We must work together to ensure that NRM candidates are supported at all levels, especially in the upcoming LC1 elections,” Dife said.
He emphasized that strengthening internal cohesion is essential for improving the party’s performance, particularly in areas where the opposition has previously made gains.
He urged leaders to address internal differences and focus on collective action as a key strategy for maintaining and expanding the NRM’s influence across Sironko District.
He further announced plans to expand mobilisation efforts by involving youth groups in structured door-to-door and village-to-village campaigns aimed at deepening community engagement and strengthening party support.
He also made a strong appeal to young people across Sironko District and the wider Bugisu region to actively participate in the LC1 elections by contesting for leadership positions and engaging in community mobilisation activities.
He described the village-level elections as a critical platform for nurturing emerging leaders and strengthening grassroots governance systems.
He emphasized that increased youth participation would enhance accountability, innovation, and community-driven development.
Beyond electoral mobilisation, Dife called on government to formally integrate grassroots political leaders and party structures into the monitoring and supervision of government programs like PDM
He argued that such involvement would improve transparency, enhance service delivery, and reduce mismanagement of public resources.
“Local NRM leaders act as a bridge between the community and the central government. Their participation in monitoring projects ensures that community priorities are considered and that government programmes deliver real value,” Dife stated.
HE concluded by emphasizing the importance of participatory monitoring and budgeting in ensuring that government investments in education, health, infrastructure, and wealth creation directly benefit citizens.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from NRM leaders to strengthen unity, intensify grassroots mobilisation, promote youth participation, and enhance accountability in service delivery as preparations for the LC1 elections continue across Sironko District.
