The Parish Development Model (PDM) continues to prove that when government empowerment programs reach the right beneficiaries, they can transform ordinary citizens into successful entrepreneurs and job creators.
One such inspiring story is that of Mugoya Amina, a resident of Nauyo-Wakwaba, Zadox Cell in Mbale City, whose life has been completely transformed through the PDM initiative.
Before benefiting from the program, Amina operated a small roadside business selling fresh food items, including matoke, tomatoes, onions, greens, and banana leaves. While the business helped her survive, the profits were small and expansion remained only a dream.
Her breakthrough came when the LC II leadership sensitized residents about the Parish Development Model and encouraged them to embrace the opportunity. Inspired by the message, Amina decided to take a bold step.
“When I heard about PDM, I said to myself, ‘Let me try it and see what happens,'” she recalls.
After receiving PDM funds, she invested wisely and started a small loan-financing business within her community. Through hard work, discipline, and proper management of resources, her business steadily grew and later evolved into an Equity Agent Banking enterprise.
Today, Amina proudly operates a thriving Equity Agent Banking outlet at Nkonkonjeru, behind Equity Bank in Mbale City. The business serves numerous customers every day and has enabled her to create employment opportunities for two people who now work alongside her.
Her success story demonstrates the real impact of President Museveni’s wealth-creation agenda and the government’s commitment to lifting households out of poverty through targeted economic empowerment programs.
Amina says the support she received through PDM has changed her life and improved the welfare of her family.
“The money helped me a lot. It enabled me to grow my business and create jobs for others. I pray that I can access more PDM support in the future so that I can increase my capital and expand my business even further,” she says.
Her journey from selling matoke and vegetables on a small scale to becoming a respected financial services entrepreneur is a shining example of what determination, innovation, and government support can achieve.
As Uganda continues implementing the Parish Development Model across the country, stories like Amina’s offer hope and inspiration to thousands of other citizens. They demonstrate that PDM is not just about providing funds; it is about unlocking potential, creating jobs, empowering families, and building a stronger economy from the grassroots.
