Lydia Wanyoto Hosts Powerful Iftar in Mbale, Praises Muslim Support and Signals Readiness for National Leadership

Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, Mbale City Woman Representative in Parliament, yesterday’s evening hosted the Muslim community for a special Iftar Dinner in Maluku, thanking the Almighty for the victory that propelled her to Parliament.

She told congregants that it was by God’s grace and the prayers offered during last year’s Eid celebrations that she triumphed in the recent elections, noting that the gathering was meant to appreciate the Muslim fraternity for their unwavering support.

She called for unity in Mbale and the wider region, revealing that she had invited fellow leaders including Karim Masaba and Umar Nangoli to strengthen cooperation among leaders.

Wanyoto also applauded Mbale women for actively participating in the recent International Women’s Day celebrations in Kololo and commended the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for appreciating Mbale City’s strong support for the ruling party.

On her ambition for the Speaker of Parliament position, She revealed that she has formally written to the President expressing interest and is ready to serve, citing her experience as an advocate, diplomat and seasoned legislator.

Religious and political leaders, including Deputy Mufti for Eastern Uganda Ahmed Wandega, urged Muslims to remain steadfast in prayer during Ramadan, while NRM Women’s League Chairperson Halima Nandege praised Mbale residents and party structures for entrusting Wanyoto with the mandate to represent the city in Parliament.
