BY ENOCK MUSIKA

Shock and grief have engulfed Mutufu Town Council following a devastating fire that razed the boys’ dormitory at Elgon Junior Christian School on Wednesday evening, leaving pupils homeless and the community demanding urgent action.

The dormitory, a vital facility constructed through the efforts of Asha Nabulo Mafabi in partnership with Volunteers of Time to Help Netherlands and Nile Humanitarian Development Agency, was completely destroyed, with books, clothes, and bedding reduced to ashes.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that four children who were inside at the time were safely rescued, and no lives were lost—an outcome many have described as miraculous.

Local leaders and parents have raised serious concerns over the cause of the fire, noting a prior power outage and signs of possible forced access to the building. The incident has sparked fears of deliberate sabotage, with some residents calling for thorough investigations.

This tragedy is more than a loss of property—it is a direct attack on the future of young learners. Leaders, security agencies, and the government must act swiftly to uncover the truth, strengthen school safety, and ensure such incidents never happen again.
