MBALE CITY, October 17, 2026 — The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob L. O. Oboth Oboth, has today flagged off the 10th CURE Children’s Brain Surgery Run at CURE Children’s Hospital in Mbale City, bringing together leaders, health professionals, business representatives and other stakeholders in support of children requiring specialised neurosurgical care.

The event was attended by Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Public Service, who joined other invited guests in supporting the hospital’s efforts to raise awareness and mobilise support for children living with neurological conditions.
Speaker Oboth Oboth was welcomed by Hon. Wanyoto, hospital leadership led by the Chief Executive Officer, and other distinguished guests, including businessman Patrick Bitature and Members of Parliament.

The annual run highlights the importance of specialised medical care for children and the need for collective action to support access to life-changing brain surgery. CURE Children’s Hospital in Mbale is recognised for providing specialised neurosurgical services to children, including those affected by conditions such as hydrocephalus and other neurological disorders.
The participation of national leaders and other stakeholders underscored the importance of partnerships between government, health institutions, the private sector and the public in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the lives of vulnerable children.
The 10th edition of the run also provided an opportunity to rally communities and well-wishers behind the hospital’s mission of giving children with treatable neurological conditions a chance to live healthier and more productive lives.
Through initiatives such as the CURE Children’s Brain Surgery Run, organisers seek to sustain public attention on specialised paediatric healthcare and encourage continued support for children and families facing the challenges associated with neurological conditions.
