As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, an inspiring story of determination and opportunity is emerging from the Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, where thousands of young Ugandans—especially women—are transforming their lives through industrial employment.

The industrial park, which employs over 13,000 workers, has become a symbol of empowerment with 70% of its workforce being women, proving that when given the opportunity, the girl child can thrive in any field.

Among the shining examples is 23-year-old Nanyanzi Alliana, whose journey from a garage assistant to a Senior Excavator Operator has inspired many. Ariana joined the industrial park in 2022 shortly after completing Senior Four, beginning her work as a “spanner girl” in the garage while learning mechanical skills.

Driven by ambition and curiosity, she later developed interest in operating heavy machinery and joined the excavation department where she completed four months of training. Today, Alliana confidently operates excavators and earns over 900,000 Uganda shillings, enabling her to support her family back home in Iganga.

Despite facing stigma from some friends who doubted her choice of career, She remained focused on her childhood dream.

“Operating these machines has always been my dream. I thank God and the management of Sino Mbale Industrial Park for giving me this opportunity,” she said.

Her supervisor, Muluga Daniel, describes her as a patient and disciplined worker, noting that operating heavy machinery requires great focus and resilience.

Alliana’s story stands as a powerful reminder that institutions like the Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park are not only driving industrial growth but also opening doors for the girl child to rise, lead, and build Uganda’s future.

This Women’s Day, Alliana’s journey sends a clear message to the nation: when women are empowered with opportunity, they become unstoppable forces of progress.
