Kampala — The Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC) Manager, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has hailed Ugandan women for their resilience and sacrifices as the country joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8.

In a message issued ahead of the celebrations, Namyalo congratulated women across the country, particularly mothers and single mothers, for the vital role they play in nurturing families and contributing to national development.

She described women as the backbone of society whose dedication and commitment continue to shape the country’s future.

“Happy Women’s Day to all the ladies across the country, especially the single mothers who continue to sacrifice for their children and for the good of this nation,” Namyalo said.

She paid special tribute to single mothers, noting that many of them shoulder enormous responsibilities in raising children and ensuring the wellbeing of their families despite numerous challenges.

Namyalo said such sacrifices demonstrate the strength and determination that define women in Ugandan society.

“You are the mothers of today and the mothers of tomorrow. You represent the true definition of the strength of a woman,” she said, adding that many women have sacrificed their personal happiness to ensure their children are raised well and become responsible citizens.

In the same message, the ONC Manager expressed gratitude to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda and National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement, for what she described as his continued commitment to empowering women and promoting their participation in leadership.

She said deliberate government efforts under President Museveni’s leadership have created opportunities that have enabled women to take up leadership roles and actively participate in governance and national development.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dear President and National Chairman, His Excellency Captain Seven, for empowering the women of this generation and uplifting us to positions where our voices are heard and respected,” Namyalo said.

According to Museveni’s Chief Muzzukulu, the increasing visibility of women in governance, community leadership and economic activities reflects the progress Uganda has made in promoting gender equality.

Uganda’s International Women’s Day celebrations will be held under the theme “Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.”

One of the key highlights of the event will be an all-female parade staged by the country’s security forces, showcasing the growing role of women in Uganda’s security and defence institutions.

During the celebrations, a total of 34 individuals will be recognised with national medals in honour of their outstanding contribution to the promotion of women’s rights, empowerment, and national development.

The national event will take place on March 8, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala and will be presided over by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda.

The ceremony forms part of the 42nd national commemoration of International Women’s Day in Uganda, bringing together government officials, civil society organisations, development partners, and women leaders from across the country to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women to national development.
